The stuff I use

I always think it's fun to see the items, technology and software people enjoy. It gives a lens into what that person values, while also helping to discover new things!

For now, I'm limiting this page to the devices I daily carry. As such, expect it to change frequently (I'm really bad sticking with tech)!

Hardware

  • Lenovo ThinkPad P14s Gen 4

A ThinkPad sitting on a desk with a coffee cup next to it

My daily driver, second hand (well third hand actually), purchased on Craigslist. I love this computer, it's light, has an incredible keyboard, surprisingly good screen and runs Linux flawlessly.

  • iPhone 17 Pro Max

I switch frequently between my Pixel 7 Pro running Graphene OS and my iPhone, but considering I have the Apple Watch and everyone I know uses iMessage, it's difficult to completely leave the iPhone.

  • Apple Watch Ultra 3

Overkill without a doubt, but I like the large size (I'm a big guy), and it's great for tracking my rides, swims and hikes.

  • Palm Tungsten T3

A Palm Pilot Tungsten T3 with Hello and a smiley face written on the screen

I write a lot about Palm Pilots, and frequently switch between my T3 and Tungsten E as daily drivers. I use my Palm Pilot to track calories, client billing, reminders, events and to take notes. I find Palm Pilots to be the perfect offline, "distraction free" device.

  • GBA SP

A GBA SP showing the Fire Emblem title screen with a transparent purple case and back lighting.

I carry this little guy everywhere! It's my childhood GBA SP, recently modded with a IPS display, transparent case, new speaker, new battery, LED underglow and USB C charging. It usually has a EZ Flash cart in it so I don't need to carry around a bag of games.

Software

  • Ubuntu Linux 26.04 + GNOME 50

I've tried most distros under the sun (yes, including Arch), but Ubuntu just works and I really like the default font + UI tweaks they ship with. As an ex-Mac OS user, GNOME has always been my desktop environment of choice.

  • OpenBSD 7.9

This website runs on a OpenBSD server managed by OpenBSD Amsterdam. If you've never tried OpenBSD, you really should! The documentation alone is worth it the experience.

  • Sublime Text

Sublime and I go way back, at least 26 years! It's fast, has never crashed (seriously, that's impressive) and doesn't have AI. What more do you need?

  • GIMP + Inkscape

All the badges in my footer were created with GIMP and Inkscape. Incredible pieces of software and a true testmament to the power of open-source!

  • Vivaldi

My current web browser of choice, like Sublime Text, "no AI" is a big selling point!

  • Thunderbird

It's ugly but it does the job, I do wish there were better options for grapical email clients on Linux though.
