Take a Hike

A visit to Prairie Oak Metro Park in Columbus, Ohio.

Take a Hike
Big Darby Creek

It’s incredible how much good a hike does for the body. Trading the chaos of the city for the chirping of the birds and crickets puts the mind at ease. As I walk through the woods, I’ve noticed my heart rate hits a much lower average then usual, my body relaxes and I leave stress at the car (typically by keeping my phone in the glovebox). After a hike, I always feel refreshed and happier.

Today‘s hike was another visit to Prairie Oak Metro Park. It’s one of my favorite parks in the area and close enough to bike to. The park features woods, over 500 acres of prairies, lakes and Big Darby Creek. You can hike, bike, fish, boat and even take your dog swimming at a special doggy beach!

The park was opened in 2002 thanks to a levy passage that allowed the transformation of quarry and agricultural land into park land. The park is 1 of the 22 parks in the Columbus Metro Park system, and is connected to another favorite park of mine by way of the Big Darby Creek.
